Wedding and event ceremony + DJ livestream: mono fold for phones, Facebook Live, Instagram

Ceremony lav and boom feel clear in FOH cans. Band and DJ stereo beds feel wide in the tent. On Facebook Live, Instagram, and guest phones, vows thin, first dance bass disappears, and hard L/R beds collapse. That is usually polarity and arrival time between lav and boom, plus stereo beds that were never folded before the encoder. Fix polarity and small delays first. Frequency-aware phase repair belongs only after residual L/R fights remain on stereo beds before mono fold.

PHIXER is free stereo phase-repair (VST3/CLAP/AU · Win/Mac/Linux) from Riverflux Audio. Frequency-aware phase rotation for leftover L/R fights on stereo material. It is not a wedding compressor, not a widener, and not a substitute for FOH gain structure or mono audition of the stream bus. Polarity and timing first; PHIXER after residual spectral fights.

What wedding / event livestream phase failure sounds like

Fast mono audition (about 60 seconds)

  1. Solo the stream / Facebook Live / Instagram / matrix bus (not only FOH). Flip a utility to mono.
  2. A/B ceremony lav muted vs open under boom or room. Note what disappears: speech chest, presence, room warmth.
  3. Solo pairs: lav vs boom, ceremony speech vs band bed, DJ stereo vs mono fold.
  4. Check correlation on the stream bus, then with music muted vs unmuted (correlation meters).

Order of operations (before spectral phase rotation)

1. Polarity between ceremony lav and boom

Flip lav vs boom (or lav vs room) when chest or presence returns immediately. Guide: polarity vs phase. Related: dual-mic phase, podcast dual-mic.

2. Small delay align secondary speech to the hero mic

Boom or room usually arrives later than lav. A few samples of delay on the secondary path often restores body better than any widener. Different job from spectral repair: vs time-align.

3. One hero speech path to the livestream bus

Do not send lav + boom + room all hot into Facebook Live or Instagram. Pick a hero for vows and readings, keep backups muted or low. Parallel stacks are classic hollow-voice on phone fold. Related: field lav+boom.

4. Prefer a mono-safe dance / DJ bed; quieter hard-width stems

DJ and band beds should survive phone fold. If kick, bass, or vocal sit hard L or R, center critical content or simplify width before stream send. Related: club / DJ / PA.

5. Skip wideners and Haas on ceremony and dance beds before fold

Short-delay width and stereo imagers make FOH headphones huge and guest phones hollow. Guides: vs imagers, Haas vs phase repair.

6. Only then audition residual L/R spectral fights

If a stereo band or DJ bed must stay stereo and fold still hollows a band after the steps above, gentle frequency-aware phase rotation can help. Prove it with mono A/B, rotator bypassed vs engaged.

Path types and typical failure modes

Wedding / event stream checklist (to send)

1. Label ceremony vs reception / DJ paths

Name lavs, boom, room, band, and DJ sends so operators know what hits Facebook Live or Instagram. Ambiguous stacks get left open and comb on fold.

2. Mono-check stream bus alone, then with music

Solo vows in mono. Then open band or DJ bed in mono. Note fights between speech and music, not only inside one group. Related: YouTube / social.

3. Watch phone and social destinations

Most remote guests hear mono or near-mono on Facebook Live, Instagram, and phone speakers. Guides: Twitch / OBS, phone / BT.

4. Optional null / mono workflow before doors

Host-agnostic habit before ceremony: DAW null-test + mono-check, master bus mono checklist.

Decision table

You notice…First tryWhy
Lav + boom hollow chest on vowsOne hero; polarity; delayArrival-time fight
DJ bed collapses on phone / IGCenter kick/bass/vocal; pull widthHard L/R + platform fold
Fine in FOH, thin for remote guestsMono stream bus; pull dual speechFOH ≠ viewer fold
Stereo band bed still cancels by bandPHIXER on that stereo bedResidual spectral L/R fight
Mono lav alone is dullTone / EQ / gain / mic choiceNot an L/R repair job

When NOT to use PHIXER here

Quick path: Solo stream bus in mono → polarity lav vs boom → delay-align secondary speech → one hero ceremony path → mono-safe DJ/band bed (center critical content) → skip Haas/imagers → mono-check with music → PHIXER only for leftover stereo cancellation on a bed → fold again for Facebook Live / Instagram / phone.
